Miami (AFP) — The most powerful hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic set its sights on Cuba Tuesday as it churned past Puerto Rico after leaving a deadly trail of destruction across the Caribbean. Hurricane Irma’s eye passed over island residents just before noon local time with winds howling at 130 miles per hour (215 kilometers per hour). …The US National Hurricane Center said Monday that “Irma is expected to produce wind impacts on much of the northern Leeward Islands tonight and Wednesday,” noting that these conditions are also likely for British and US Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico.
